Joshua Olsan is the founder of UI with more than 30 years of real estate experience in Japan. Mr. Olsan was an important participant in the development of the ProLogis, AMB Black Pine and the New City Corporation logistics strategies and execution in Japan and China. He has been responsible for over JPY 215 billion of developments and investments in commercial real estate covering over 20 projects.
Prior to forming UI, he served as Executive Vice President and Head of Industrial Real Estate at New City Corporation from 2006 to 2009. He was directly responsible for overseeing the acquisition, management, and development of several large-scale logistics properties, including the entitlement and first phase development of Yokohama Logistics Park, the largest single industrial development project in Japan with 550,000 m2 of total planned warehouse space. Mr. Olsan was one of the original founding members and Managing Director of AMB BlackPine, a 50/50 joint venture with AMB Corporation from 2004 to 2006. Prior to that, Mr. Olsan advised numerous U.S.-based equity funds on Japanese property investment as well as ProLogis for their first logistics facilities investments in Japan.
Mr. Olsan also previously worked at Lend Lease Japan, Inc. where he managed the acquisition of $6.5bn (face value) of non-performing loan assets secured by real property on behalf of the Lend Lease International Distressed Debt Fund and third party investors. Prior to working at Lend Lease, Mr. Olsan worked at Nihon Sekkei, Inc. (the second largest architectural, engineering and consulting firm in Japan) from 1990 to 1998 where he was in charge of business development and development consulting to foreign entities and was primarily responsible for the redevelopment of both the Philippine and Italian Embassy properties in Tokyo.
Mr. Olsan is fluent in Japanese, he holds a BA in International Relations from the University of Southern California and attended Waseda University in Tokyo.
