busy-street-at-night1UI was founded by Joshua Olsan in November 2008 to provide investors an opportunity to become capital partners with us to take advantage of the attractive investment opportunities available in the Japan logistics real estate sector. Josh has been actively involved in Japanese real estate and business for over 24 years and was an instrumental part of developing the ProLogis, AMB BlackPine in Japan and New City Corporation logistic businesses in Japan and China. In January 2012 Ross Antoci joined Unified as a principal and partner to Josh to broaden the scope of the asset and investment focus for our capital partners.

Josh and Ross, along with its key senior team members, possess significant real estate management, financing and investment experience. The team have managed real estate investments and related financings for clients in Japan and China for a range of institutional, corporate and high net worth investors.

SENIOR ADVISORS

Burton H. Fohrman, Senior Advisor

Mr. Fohrman is an attorney and business advisor for companies engaged in real estate and international transactions. Mr. Fohrman has represented many major US and foreign corporations on real estate and business transactions throughout the US, Europe and Asia. Mr. Fohrman was a partner in two of the world’s largest law firms; Jones Day where he was the chair of the general real estate section on a world-wide basis and resident in London. Subsequently he became a partner in White & Case and practiced in Tokyo. Mr. Fohrman advised many Japanese, American, Chinese and European Companies on commercial real estate investments in Japan and handled many major acquisitions, financings, securitizations and complex transactional issues related to Japanese real estate and business. In Japan Mr. Fohrman was licensed to practice law as a foreign lawyer (gaikokuho jimu bengoshi).

Mr. Fohrman retired in 2003 and returned to his ranch in Sonoma County. Mr. Fohrman currently is special counsel and advisor to several public companies and has provided consulting services to companies in Japan following his retirement.

Mr. Fohrman is the former chair of the Real Property Section of the California Bar Association, the founder and first editor of the California Real Property Journal (published by the California State Bar), former chair of the Real Property Finance Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association. Mr. Fohrman was the editor in chief of the International Law Journal (published by the California State Bar). He is a member of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers and has lectured on legal and international topics at Universities, Bar Associations and public forums. Mr. Fohrman is also known for his agricultural endeavors and recently won the top honors at the world’s largest extra virgin olive oil competition for his Sonoma County estate grown olive oil.

Dr. Stephen Fisher, Senior Advisor

Dr. Fisher is the Senior Vice President of Development for E&G Engineering and Construction (Dalian) Co., Ltd. He has held this position for the past 7 years and has been active in working exclusively with foreign owned (WOFE) and JV clients in facilitating and bringing to successful completion many industrial design and construction projects throughout China. Concurrently he is the Managing Partner of the Shanghai Satinwood Business Consulting Co. He has been a Senior Analyst for the Dalian Bureau of Science and Technology and a Senior Advisor to the Dalian Business Incubator Association. He served as the Senior International Business Adviser to the faculty at the School of Management, Dalian University of Technology, and was an Adjunct Professor in the MBA program. He is an active member of the Board of the American Chamber of Commerce, North China.

Dr. Fisher has been conducting business in China for the past twenty years, and has significant experience working with WOFE’s, JV’s, Chinese private and State owned business, as well as, Chinese government agencies at a the Local, Provincial, and Central Government levels. His initial foray into China in the early 90’s was to open supply chains, qualify manufactures, and establish manufacturing operations for several private and publicly held U.S. companies where he held the positions of COO and CEO. Dr. Fisher received his PhD in Engineering Science from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute, where he was an INCRA fellow, and his MBA and MS in Engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University.

KEY TEAM MEMBERS

Norihiko Honda, CEO, UIG Asset Management

Mr. Honda is the founder/president of UIG Asset Management. Before founding UIG AM, Mr. Honda was in the real estate development group at Itochu Corporation where he was in charge of developments exceeding JPY 60 billion. Projects included 12 residential condominium developments with a total investment value of over JPY 20 billion, and six large scale outlet malls with a total investment amount of JPY40 billion covering a net rentable area of over 100,000 sqm, including the Gotenba and Tosu Premium Outlets, which were co-developed with Chelsea Japan Co., Ltd.

Toshiyuki Onuma, Senior Manager

Mr. Onuma is responsible for investment origination and industrial property services and has over 19 years of experience in the Japanese logistics sector. Prior to joining the UI in 2009, Mr. Onuma held similar positions at New City Corporation, J-REP, and the Zenitaka Corporation, where he specialized in the leasing of large-scale logistics facilities and business development.

Fumiyasu Shinozaki, Senior Manager, UIG Asset Management

Mr. Shinozaki is responsible for investment management division and joined UIG AM in July 2013. He has over 10 years of asset management experience across a range of asset classes, including logistics, residential, office buildings, hotels and retail properties, and for a total value in excess of JPY80 billion. Prior to joining UIG AM, Mr. Shinozaki held senior positions at Creed Corporation and First Brothers Co., and also has over five years real estate brokerage experience gained at Ken Corporation.

Masami Koizumi, Project Manager

Mr. Koizumi is responsible for project management of development and renovation works. Mr. Koizumi has 34 year’s experience in design and construction related management, 22 years of which were gained at Zenitaka Corporation. Mr. Koizumi has worked with UI team members since 2006 and was responsible for overseeing the Iwatsuki development, and the renovation of the Funabashi, Yokohama and Miyoshi Projects. He was also responsible for oversight and management of Kajima Corporation in the construction of the Yokohama Logistics Park Building Phase I, Paint House, Tama and The Tokyo Cervantes Institute renovation project.

Michael Ling (Managing Director, UI Song Lan)

Michael joined the company in 2016 and is responsible for construction and project management, business development and leasing.
Michael Ling has over 20 years’ experience in engineering and project management in the China commercial real estate industry with experience in industrial, logistics, residential and commercial development projects. Prior to joining UI Song Lan, he was the Engineering Director at Gazeley, which was part of Brookfield Asset Management, one of the world’s largest third-party asset management and property investment companies. During his tenure at Gazeley, he project managed 8 logistics and industrial projects with more than 300,000 sqm for clients such as Wal-Mart, Tesco, Mercedes-Benz and Adidas. He began his career with Shanghai Zhenhuan Industrial Corporation, a state-owned enterprise and later served as the Technical Manager at GSE, a French multinational EPC engineering company.

Michael holds a Bachelor of Industrial and Civil Architecture degree from Harbin Engineering University.

Xuezhen Chen (Managing Director, UI Song Lan)

Xuezhen Chen joined the company in 2020 and is responsible for business development, investment and leasing.

Ms. Chen has over 20 years’ experience in construction, engineering and commercial development projects across the Asia-Pacific region and in the United States in business development, project management and asset management for Fortune 500 companies and other industry leading occupiers. Prior to joining UI Song Lan, Ms. Chen was the general manager of Baoneng Group’s logistics sector in South China where she was responsible/involved with 3,000,000 sqm of industrial and logistics developments. Before that, she was a vice president of the real estate department of DHL Asia Pacific and the director of the project development for Prologis completing nearly 1,000,000 sqm of development projects during her tenure. She has also worked at CBRE and was responsible for project management and business development after moving from the United States where she undertook architectural engineering research, design and consulting works for the University of Michigan and Walker Consultants. 

Ms. Chen holds an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, a double Master’s degree in Architecture and Civil Engineering from the University of Michigan, and a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from Tongji University in China.

Lin Yan (Director, UI Song Lan)

Lin joined the company in 2015 taking the role of COO with primary responsibilities for financing & budgeting, project investment, project and operational management, human resource management and office administration.

Lin has over 10 years work experience abroad and in China in finance and operational roles, having previously held the position of Finance Manager at ESKO – Greater China branch, one of the MNC’s involved in graphics software and printing machinery held by Danaher Holding Group. Lin was actively involved in the operations of the Greater China business and acted as a business partner responsible for the overall finance functions, including financial analysis, taxation, budgeting and management reporting.

Lin holds a Master of Finance and a Bachelor of International Economics and Business from the University of Groningen, the Netherlands, and a Bachelor of Finance from Fudan University, China.

Aster Lam (Group Analyst, UI Hong Kong)

Aster joined the company in 2019 and is responsible for investment, financial analysis and proposals to support continuous business development and investor relationships.

Aster has nearly 10 years of real estate experience across asset & property management, leasing and investment in the Asia Pacific region. Prior to joining UI, she worked in international consultancy firms, an international brand and a private family office, where she was actively involved in analyzing and optimizing asset performance, lease negotiations and project operations management. Her competencies were well recognized with the Annual Young Talent Award from Knight Frank while she was the project driver for key accounts including Fortune 500 companies and top brands in Asia Pacific.

She holds a Bachelor of Social Science (Housing Management) Degree with honors from the City University of Hong Kong and has fundamental knowledge in Japanese.
